If you are struggling with dry skin and it seems like no matter what you do, nothing works, keep reading. In this blog post we will cover six easy, yet often overlooked ways to combat dry skin.

Optimize Gut & Thyroid Health

We have gone over the gut-skin axis and how the health of the gut is the primary factor in most cases of skin conditions and issues in previous posts.

The thyroid also has a crucial role to play when it comes to our skin health.

Hypothyroidism, a condition where the thyroid gland doesn't produce enough thyroid hormones, can lead to dry, flaky, and itchy skin.

Thyroid hormones help regulate the skin's moisture levels, so a deficiency can result in reduced sebum production, causing dryness.

Stop Over-Washing Your Face

Even if you were to use a natural soap to wash your face, you shouldn't overdo it.

The skin has a pH balance it likes to maintain. When it's stripped of its naturally occurring oils through face wash, it may overproduce sebum to compensate for this loss.

Many people tend to develop oily skin after doing this and get pulled into an endless loop of greasy skin: use face wash, dry skin, moisturize, repeat.

Wash your face only after sweating.

Stop Chugging Empty Water

A popular skin tip for dry skin is to drink more water.

Adequate hydration at the cellular level means that you have sufficient electrolytes in your body.

When you drink an excessive amount of purified water that has not been remineralized, you will deplete your own stores of electrolytes like sodium and potassium.

Make sure to drink more spring water and fresh fruit juices to truly hydrate your skin.

Use a Shower Filter

Head on over to EWG.org and lookup the tap water data in your zip code.

Unless you are living in the wilderness with access to a clean creek or have a reverse osmosis water system in your house, your tap water is LOADED with contaminants that negatively impact health.

The harsh mineral content and chlorine found in tap water severely dries skin out, especially when it's hot and steamy.

Buy a shower filter ASAP.

Eat Enough Vitamins

The fat soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K are essential for skin health and a deficiency in any of them may result in dryness and itchiness of the skin.

Aim to consume the majority of them through whole food sources and getting enough sunshine for vitamin D production.

Other vitamins to prioritize are the B group vitamins, vitamin C, as well as glycine. They all perform key processes that maintain skin healthy and allows you to use all nutrients efficiently.

Stop Using Mainstream Skincare

It's ridiculous what large skincare conglomerates sell to you, but they are clever.

Convince the consumer that this product will help with your acne/dry skin > the product uses synthetic ingredients to mimic the natural contents the skin can produce on its own to alleviate skin condition > skin starts to improve > must continue to use product in order to maintain skin appearance > $$$ spent for the rest of the consumers life.

By throwing the Dove and Neutrogena away, you might have to deal with a temporary phase where your skin will be dry or break out as it tries to achieve balance. But, the suffering will save you hundreds and gain your confidence back.

Luckily our skincare line is here to make it a painless transition...
