The Issue With Supplements
In today’s health-conscious world, it’s easy to get swept up in the latest supplement trends, from exotic protein powders to an array of pills promising everything from energy boosts to better skin. It can get dangerous very quickly, and we need to take into consideration that everyone is different, and what works for one person may not work for another.
While certain supplements can offer benefits, an excessive reliance on them can lead to unnecessary spending and potential health risks. Luckily, there is a way to avoid this trap, and it starts with your day-to-day routine and diet.
The Overload
With health and wellness trends constantly evolving, it can be tempting to think that a bundle of powders and multivitamins will solve your health concerns. The market is flooded with hundreds of options. For instance: someone might start their day with a vitamin D supplement, followed by greens powder, and later in the day take a probiotic and magnesium supplement— all the while eating processed foods and soda. You can see how the two contradict each other.
The Risks of Excessive Supplementation
Taking too many supplements can lead to various health issues, including imbalances and dangerous interactions.
For example: High doses of vitamin D can interfere with calcium absorption, and excessive fish oil may increase the risk of bleeding.
Furthermore, relying heavily on supplements can mask deficiencies rather than address their root causes.
Real Foods Over Pills
The most effective way to reduce your dependency on supplements is by focusing on a balanced diet, rich in whole foods. Eating real foods provides a diverse array of nutrients that a supplement cannot replicate.
Ditch the greens powder and eat some fresh fruit every morning—bonus points if the fruit is in season.
Throw away your protein powder that definitely has seed oils in it—instead, incorporate real protein into every meal whether that be chicken, steak (personal favorite), or eggs.
Say goodbye to your useless vitamin D supplement— instead, get outside into the sun (you get your vitamin D fix as well as a tan, why wouldn’t you?)
Here is a great example of a popular protein powder that we were all told was amazing for us. This brand in specific is the first one I see when I enter any smoothie shop.

“Organic High Oleic Sunflower Oil”… yea no thanks, I’ll pass.
“Xanthan Gum”— no wonder I have digestive issues after consuming this.
